Every monument earned will unlock something, from heroes and pets to weapons, clothes and miniatures, in Guild Wars 2.

When you create your character in Guild Wars 2 you can choose a character from Guild War to inherit these unlocks from.

Kind of a neat idea, I think. To bad these new character don't also inherit some other attributes or traits from your Guild Wars characters, that would be fantastic.

Strain said the team decided to include this form of inter-character inheritance to make sure that all of the time players spent playing Guild Wars wouldn't be wasted.

This should clear up all the character transfer misconception...

~You cannot transfer your weapons/armour this is not a BIG CHEST to put all your stuff in....You must EARN monuments...this monument will in turn UNLOCK content in GW2 which cannot be obtained otherwise.

Thats the beauty of the Sidekick/Buddy system, it makes lvl's meaning less and remember, PvP is going to be seperate with UAX and max lvl (or whatever) so it has no bearing on PvP either

Believe me, I thought the same thing at first. As Guild Wars players, the "No Grind" mantra resonates deeply.

But what is "grind?" Is just playing the game "grind?" If, by just playing the game, we continue to increased levels so by the time we hit the "elite" areas at the end, we are level 100, is that "grind?"

Honestly, I have no idea how they implement this, but Anet has always catered to the casual player who can play for 20 min - 1 hour at a time. I trust Anet to keep the game fun, despite a rise in levels.

Only time will tell if my trust is warranted.

-level (level 20 I guess)
-Gold/money
-feel free to add more to, but i'll start with just these

Names:
Ok, names have nothing to do with the game play. To me and to most people, it does not really matter if it is transferable or not. I know I don't and can not speak for everyone out there, but transferring the char's name should be the last thing we worry about.

armors/weapons/items/pets:
Very possible to transfer with HoM.

titles/quests/missions completed:
as we all know by now, Titles are transferable by using the HoM. It is very easy to do the same thing with quests and mission, but once again, not much to do with gameplay.

face, hair, skin color & size model:
So basically the appearance of your GW1 char. So what if this is not transferable?! Just make a new one thats looks like it.

level:
As we all know that GW1 is not a level based game. It is a skill based game. To get to lvl 20 is not that hard to do, so why make it transferable?

Gold/money:
Ok, it would kind of make sense for GW2 char to be able to use the money from the GW1 char, I think of it like a grandparents' family will. This is completely possible and easy to do with the HoM.

So to sum it up: Why does it matter if your Char is transferable or not? Are you only doing it for just the name? Or is it for the 20 levels that you can probably accomplish in a month and half?

Char transfer is pointless. and should not stop anyone from playing GW2

I respectfully disagreed with your thoughts on char transferability, but in no way was I bashing your post.
Now this post actually made me think twice about not buying gw2 if its possible to inherit my gw1 characters equipment (armor, weapons, items, gold, etc) I wouldnt really mind starting from scratch plus titles dont bug me to lose. If this would be all possible (although i dont see armor coming over anytime soon but they could give you a token or something to trade for a same high end armor piece instead of the actual armor) I would seriously reconsider buying gw2 it would actually be kinda cool to name my next Char (insert name here) son/daughter of (insert dead character name here) if symbol limit would allow. Thanks for your positive disagreement.

Does that mean we'll get clothes other than big bulky armor to hang out and RP in?

A lingerie, or a clothing NPC in general, would be a really nice addition! It would be many hours of fun wandering around as a big, fat warrior in a dress... of sorts :P ^^

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/s...ngs/gameID/82/

GW gets the highest rating of all mmorpg games on this site.

however, the two things that guild wars suffers on is community and role playing...

the community i dont think can be helped due to the 'free' pick up and play nature of the game.

..but there 'are' things to help RP like a dedicated server.

as to being *cosmetic* they are introducing the SIDEKICK SYSTEM similar to COH which will allow a much more powerful high level player to sidekick a lower level player so people wont be left out due to level.

if the levels were cosmetic this system would not be needed but make your own deductions after reading what we already have
yes I've seen that quote a few times before. But it obviously isn't nearly enough information to start assuming you know exactly how it works. All he basically said is that they are raising the levelcap.... which obviously we already know!

As for the sidekick system. well I haven't seen an exact quote on it yet, but I have a feeling theres not enough info on it either. could it not be that theres requirements to get into certain areas, and sidekicks let friends in? could it not be that lv 100 is same as lv 20 like the possibility before?

And could it not be that level cap is raised and all that, but max armor level is still 80, and max damage on weapons is still the same? Yeah.

here is the article quote

allow players of different levels to keep interacting in the persistant world-which is crucial, since as of right now, ArenaNet is planning a very high (100-plus), or possibly no level cap.
there are also plans for a strong sidekicking system similar to City of Heroes, which allows a higher-level player to designate a player 10 or more levels below him as his sidekick, bestowing health, stamina, and other benefits that allow the lower-level player to sufficiently keep up with their higher level buddy.

Haha. You're in complete denial there. The sidekick system is very clear in what it's supposed to do. It's to bridge the level gap because obviously there's going to be a high level cap that isnt superficial. Why would it simply be a superficial leveling system and yet have the sidekick system?

And there would be no reason for them to put level restrictions on areas simply for the sake of restricting them unless levels do matter. Sorry but you're really reaching in your theories. Sad to say but there's pretty much no denying that there will be a high level cap and the levels do matter.

Ok, I have two questions for Gaile that I'm pretty sure haven't been asked yet, relating to GW2; and if they have, i'm sorry for asking them again, but there are a lot of pages to read through.

Question 1:
How will Guilds and GvG play be implemented into the new game and how will it participate with the current GW1 Tournament Ladder, or will it be a sepereate ladder completely?

Question 2:
How do races come into play? Are they seperate from classes? And if so, is already determined what type of (dis)advantage they have over human classes (assuming you can also be human.)
